Oh my. Jay Crownover does it again. How can she just keep getting better and better? I’m just loving this series, and I’m so so sad that this is the final story following this wonderful group of friends and family. Oh, and don’t get me started on that cover - scrumdiddlyumptious - I love it. I also love a really good M/M romance, and Rodie Collins and Wyatt Bryan are two alpha males that really know how to heat things up, both in and out of the bedroom. Wyatt is so pig headed and stubborn, determined to be independent even while nursing his injuries, it’s also cute hw he wants to hate small town Sheriff Rodie, pushing him away at every opportunity. Rodie though is determined to break through Wyatt’s tough exterior, it’s proving difficult though - good job he’s not easily put off. With lots of cameos from all the Warners, I just loved getting to see how they are all doing (Cam in particular). A story filled with love, family and friendship, then there’s the secrets, the homophobes, and the bad guys. Action romance at its best. I loved it. I have been waiting for Wyatt and Rodie's book in the Getaway series and the city boy and Sheriff did not disappoint!Wyatt Bryant is still recovering from significant injuries after a dangerous event that involved his family and has now sidelined him from his DEA agent career. He is now on an unexpected detour from his life and moving to Sheridan temporarily to stay near his brother, Wyatt on the Warner Ranch. He is frustrated, stubborn, prideful, and resistant to help. He hates his new limitations and is struggling to find his new purpose. He is gay and not afraid to be who he is, although has also had to keep it under wraps due to his job.Rodie Collins is also ex-military and now the town Sheriff. He is cold, distant, grumpy, and very private about his preferences. He has a certain image to protect and tries to just do his job and keep to himself.Wyatt and Rodie have challenged and antagonized each other before and get under each other's skin. And now it seems like Rodie is starting to make his wants known, much to Wyatt's complete surprise. These two men are tough, rugged, intelligent, and caring. Together they are passionate and hot, but also vulnerable and full of need. They make each other finally feel alive. They have a lot in common. But they are also in different places so kind of living day by day. Wyatt is not sure where he will go or what he will do after recovery. And Rodie's job and situation make coming out to his conservative constituents difficult.There are other side stories and antagonists making waves in the community and pushing agendas on them. Rodie seems to be in the middle of all of the factions and making enemies. Sometimes it is hard to choose between self-preservation and standing up for what is right. This story is about hope, companionship, family, and not being afraid to be who you are.It brings back the Warners and friends. I enjoyed being back in this world and loved getting more closure for all the characters. I found the storyline about Cam to be very current and important.
